The Heart Chakra

Anahata

This chakra is located in the centre of the chest and represented by the colour green.

At a physical level is relates to your heart and, lungs, thymus gland and cardiac plexus.

It represents love and compassion in the unconditional sense. It is dedicated to overcoming separation and division.

When the heart centre is blocked, there is a sense of alienation from others, and may manifest as cold heartedness, selfishness in love or green with envy, but an open active free flowing chakra radiates love and compassion. If you allow your heart chakra to open you can feel connectedness at a deep level to all of life.

Just as your heart pumps blood your heart chakra pumps love. The nature of the heart is to connect all that is. The physical heart is also affected by the chakra.

Studies have shown those who believe the world to be a nurturing place or those in love have a lower risk of heart attacks.
Your emotional heart stays healthy by giving and receiving love. By also receiving love you are allowing someone to give love and nurture their own heart. So be in the act of giving and receiving love for a healthy heart and chakra.

The mantra to awaken and open the heart is Yum.


Heart chakra (Anahata) Meditation

Sit in an upright position, focus your attention on your breath, let it be an easy natural rhythm, notice the inhalation move up through the spine and as it does with each breath allow the heart to open, with each exhalation let the shoulders and body relax down.................... keep concentrating on the breath up and down the spine lifting and opening on inhaling and releasing relaxing on the exhaling................. now take all your awareness to the centre of the chest and allow the breath to flow in and out through the heart centre................ on breathing in notice that you can notice noticing that the body expands and the heart opens, imagine , make a mental picture of light, Prana flowing into your heart,............. keep receiving this light and feel it in your heart,............. as you exhale see that light Prana, cosmic energy of life radiating into the whole of your body, into every cell of your physical body, growing and feeling lighter and brighter with each breath.......... allow your breath to deepen as you visualize the colour green at the centre of your chest, start to chant the mantra Yum and notice and sense the vibration of the mantra clearing the energy channels allowing the energy to flow more freely now,............. imagine now the energy, prana that is flowing through your heart and body, ......................it is the energy of life in the universe giving you your life, in a way that feels right for you connect to that energy ......................,you are connecting to the life force of the universe,.......... and all that this energy flows through which is everything, ......in your minds eye see your self connected to all that is, and that energy is pure love,...... see this love in your heart sense it growing stronger and deeper............. where there is love there can not be fear, breath out all fear, anxiety, resentments with each chant or breath and replace with more and more love and light,.................... let this love and light vibrate through the body each time you repeat the mantra,................ let it radiate deeper and deeper into the body and mind with each breath and mantra sound, until your body feels like a glowing wheel of love now let it radiate out to all the people you love........ know......... are neutral about...........people you don’t like.............. everyone in your country...............in the world ..............every living thing in existence, that which you radiate out you receive back multiplied, so now each breath is a giving and receiving of love and light energy........ healing and nourishing you and the universe, continue for as long as is right for you for today.............

Where you have your awareness the energy follows and your body responds. So putting your awareness on love your energy will follow and your body will respond with love. Your body responds with chemicals, you have your own chemistry set in your brain, good thoughts the body responds with feel good chemicals, health and wellbeing. But negative thoughts, fear and anxiety create the stress chemicals in the body.
So the more you practice this meditation the better.
